How to Sponsor Caregiver Recognition Events:

Elderly caregivers with a chronic illness have a 63% higher mortality rate than their non-caregiver peers.
What - A calendar listing is a very short notice about upcoming community events and activities. They mention the time, place, and cost, if any, for a program or event.

How
  • Distribute Certificates of Appreciation for family caregivers to a local hospital or clinic and ask them to provide the certificates to care recipients to fill out in honor of NFC Month.
  • Encourage your staff, or assign an individual to download and bring the NFCA “Planning a Faith-Based Service to Honor Family Caregivers” how-to guide to local faith organizations and have them acknowledge and honor the activities of family caregivers in a special worship service. (Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Interfaith services are available from NFCA.)
  • Host a Family Caregivers Day at your office, complete with workshops and a packet of NFCA educational material. Work with a local radio or TV station to promote this educational and community-building opportunity.
When — As part of the NFC Month celebration, these events should be planned for November.

Where — Events can be held at local community centers, hospitals, clinics or places of worship.
