How to do a Bylined Article:
| American businesses lose between $11 to $29 billion each year due to employees’ need to care for loved ones. |
What — bylined article is different from a story pitch. Someone considered to be an expert or
professional in a certain field typically writes it. The difference between this and a news release is
it is written as an in-depth news article and not just an information piece. The purpose of the enclosed
bylined article, written by Suzanne Mintz, president and co-founder of NFCA, is to help those who provide
care recognize that there is strength and power in being part of a group.
How — Click here for a sample bylined article
that you can use. Customize only if necessary with your organization’s name and information. Send this to
your print media with a cover letter as to why you want them to print the article. Alternatively, if you
have another expert you would prefer to author the article, simply use the sample as an example or outline.
When — Contact immediately — Editors are planning their space and coverage now.
Where — The article can be sent to your local newspapers, magazines or newsletters. Address the
letter and article to the “managing editor.” You will find that many smaller publications do not have
the staff to write all of their own material. They will welcome this piece.
