Hi, I've gotten conflicting information on benefits for live-in home health care aides. We've got two - one Monday - Friday, the other Friday-Monday taking care of my Mom. I'm not sure what 'benefits' other than private bedroom/bath are to be offered. I've read conflicting thoughts regarding providing them with meals. I think they should be provided with meals, family members say not so. It's gotten to the point where I've been giving them extra money each month for them to provide their own food. We're having a family (minus-Mom) sit down tomorrow nite to discuss Mom's situation (worsening), finances, etc., and would appreciate any opinions/facts.

Thanks....

M.

Hi, M

Welcome to the forum. From what I know, it just depends on what you irginally offered, whether live-in means room and board or only room. There is no hard fast rule. But it is always nice to treat them well, especially if they do good jobs.

Best Regards,

Min-Shih

M,

The bottom line is are they good aides or not. If they are then do what you need to do to keep them. If them means some meals then provide them. Also consider that the aides are most likely preparing the meals and living there. Why shouldn't they get a part of the food?

Here is a nice article from the aide's perspective.
