Savings on medicines for uninsured patients

Presented by Pfizer Inc

As family caregivers know well, the cost of health care is rising. Approximately 45 million people in the United States lack health insurance, many of whom may not seek necessary care - such as medical tests and prescription medicines - because of cost.

One of the NFCA's Principles of Family Caregiver Self Advocacy is "Seek, accept, and at times demand help." At Pfizer, we recognize that caregiving is far too big a task to undertake alone, and that it is sometimes difficult to know where to turn, especially in today's health care maze. That is why we are committed to making it easier for uninsured Americans to find programs that may help them save on their prescription medicines.

Ways to Find and Get Help and Internet Resources

New programs from America's pharmaceutical companies can help caregivers of uninsured patients get help paying for medicines.

  • The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA) helps low-income, uninsured patients find programs that can help lower their total drug costs on a wide variety of name-brand prescription medicines and generics. A nationwide initiative, the PPA offers a single point of access to more than 275 patient assistance programs, including 150 manufacturer programs such as those from Pfizer.

Through a toll-free number (1-888-4PPA-NOW) and a user-friendly Web site (www.pparx.org), patients and their caregivers can find out if they may be eligible for one or more of these programs.

  • For patients who need help with Pfizer medicines specifically, Pfizer Helpful Answers offers Pfizer medicines for free or at meaningful savings to America's 45 million uninsured, regardless of age or income. Pfizer Helpful Answers makes it easier to get help paying for Pfizer medicines, and provides the greatest savings to those with the lowest incomes. Families earning $31,000 or less per year may qualify for free Pfizer medicines

There is a toll-free number - 1-866-706-2400 - to speak with a Pfizer Helpful Answers operator. Information about Pfizer Helpful Answers is also available on the Internet at www.pfizerhelpfulanswers.com.

  • Uninsured, low-income Americans who are not eligible for Medicare can also turn to another new resource, Together Rx AccessTM. Together Rx AccessTM is a consumer program that provides meaningful savings on a wide range of prescription products at the pharmacy counter to uninsured Americans who are not on Medicare and who meet income requirements. Cardholders can save on more than 275 brand-name prescription medicines from some of the world's best known companies, as well as a wide range of generic products.

For savings on brand-name prescription medicines and generic medicines, consumers can call Together Rx AccessTM at 1-800-444-4106 or visit www.togetherrxaccess.com.

Pfizer urges America's caregivers to call the Partnership for Prescription Assistance at 1-888-4PPA-NOW to find out which of the programs described above is best for their loved ones.
